Theories of the Mind


Assessment for the course


The course is assessed by one six thousand word essay or equivalent set of web pages, to be handed in at the beginning of the second semester. See the handbook for the exact time and date.

The topic of the essay is:

Take some of the theories of any two or more theorists of the mind and apply them to any work or works of literature. You should compare and contrast the theories in relation to their ability to explain the literary texts you have chosen.

The theorists should be chosen from the following: Freud, Jung, Lacan, and any other theorist of the mind as agreed in advance with the course convenor.

The works of literature can include other media than print. Film, for instance. The works chosen must be agreed in advance with the course convenor.
